Sauvignon Blanc ‘Late Harvest’

The Colchagua Valley is a three hour drive south of Santiago and home to many of Chile`s finest wineries. The region is influenced by the coastal maritime breezes and micro climate affected by Lake Rapel. The Andes mountains which dominate the country tower over the valley in the distance and are the water source used to irrigate the vines. The region is renowned for many of the finest Merlots, Cabernets and Carmen?re.

Producer

The Vi?a La Playa estate occupies some of Colchagua Valley`s most desirable acreage benefitting from its own unique micro-climate due to the Tinguirrica and Limar? rivers which run through the vineyards. Comprising 600 acres and a $10 million state of the art winery, this excellent producer is owned by the Sutil family who make superb modern fruit-driven wines from grapes sourced entirely from the estate. Exciting new vineyard development in the coastal Limari Valley, north of Santiago, is starting to produce some outstanding cool climate varietals. Vi?a La Playa is passionate about creating high quality, fruit-driven wines whilst remaining committed to the environment.

Tasting Notes

The early morning cool damp misty conditions by the Rapel river create botrytis on the Sauvignon grapes and when picked late have high levels of sugar very similar to Sauternes. The aroma is given added perfume by the addition of late picked Viognier and the palate offers ripe citrus, melon, pineapple, candied ginger, honey, quince, nutmeg and butterscotch flavours. It is richly sweet yet beautifully balanced with lingering fresh acidity.

Accompany fruit based desserts, creme brulee, tarts and blue-veined cheeses.
